What to count

Each mention has a status based on the commenter's wording. Every number on the page counts the statuses you pick here.

Dead and flagged comments

HN marks some comments dead or flagged, often spam or brand-new accounts.

How to read this

What this is

An analysis of every comment in the Ask HN thread “What's your current AI agentic setup?”. Almost nobody followed the question format, so an LLM read each comment and pulled out the tools, models and plans people mentioned. Every extraction keeps the verbatim quote it's based on, and every number links back to those quotes.

Built by Scott Goci (scottgoci.com, GitHub, me@scottgoci.com), with help from Claude (AI).

Charts

Every chart counts people, once each, however many comments they wrote. A top-level row's percentage is its share of everyone who described a setup (shown at the top of each question). An indented row's percentage is its share of the row above it, and “No further detail” is everyone who didn't say more. Click ▸ to expand a row, or click its name to read every quote behind it.

Current use, tried, stopped, planned

Each mention got a status from the commenter's wording: “I use” is current, “I tried” or “moved on from” is tried, “cancelled” or “dropped” is stopped, and “going to try” is planned. By default the page counts current use only; change that in . The line between tried and stopped is fuzzy, so you can count several together.

Quotes

Quotes are the commenter's own words, lightly edited for reading: [brackets] mark words an editor added for context, and … marks cuts. “context” shows the surrounding part of the comment, and “on hn” opens the original.

Tools, licenses and pricing

Tool descriptions, links, licenses and pricing were researched from each tool's website, GitHub repo and license file. GitHub stars are fetched live. Licenses read from GitHub are exact; pricing and some categorisations are judgment calls, and the uncertain ones say so.
